PDT enhanced treatments

Treat actinic keratosis, acne and reduce fine lines and wrinkles

PDT represents the cutting edge of research in light based medicine, and works in two stages:
i)a photosensitizer is applied to the skin, and the body converts this into a chemical (often the naturally occurring chemical Protoporphyrin IX or PpIX).
ii)The PpIX created responds to light within a certain waveband, provided by the Ellipse PR+ or PL+ applicators.

Two of the Ellipse applicators are approved as the Light source for PDT treatments of the skin. The PR+ applicator is already known for its use in vascular and photorejuvenation treatments. This applicator matches three of the PpIX absorption peaks, allowing a photochemical pathway to be added to existing acne and photorejuvenation treatments. Because of the wavelengths and pulse times used, the PR+ applicator is suitable for patients of Fitzpatrick Skin Types 1 to 3, with zero or light suntan. The PL+ applicator - the latest addition to the Ellipse PLUS series – matches all 5 PpIX absorption peaks. By offering a series of longer, low energy passes, it offers a comfortable treatment suitable for slightly more tanned patients, or those of Skin Types 1 to 4.

Facts

The facts

There are numerous peer-reviewed clinical articles that show the safety and effectiveness of PDT treatments. A large number of these involve using a specific photosensitizer in a treatment.

Testimonials

The European Aesthetic Guide, Autumn 2012

"The fact that all the light energy is contained in a waveband that closely matches the the absorption spectrum of PpIX enables me to treat effectively, while using only a fraction of the energy required with other IPL systems. Patients benefit from a faster treatment, via fewer passes of light."

Prof. Peter Bjerring, MD, PhD, professor of dermatology and medical director, Molholm Hospital, Vejle, Denmark

Abstracts

While doctors are free to recommend off-label use, there are considerable restrictions placed on the manufacturers of photosensitizers and devices in respect of the amount and type of information allowed.
As device manufacturers, we are now able to provide new, scientific, non-promotional  publications on off-label uses of a drug, in response to an unsolicited request. Press here to send such a request.
