My workhorse for many years

Testimonial:

Ellipse has been my system of choice, my workhorse, for many years. This is because of the reliability of the system and because of the wide range of treatments available.

The Nd:YAG allows me to treat larger vessels and has the added benefit that patients prefer the cooling mechanism to the intense cold of other systems.

The new shorter Selective Waveband Technology pulses now enable me to successfully treat conditions that previous were only treatable with pulse dye laser.

Testimonial:
I had a client with pigmented lesions all over her face. After just one treatment she is already extremely happy!!
I had another client who had very many thread veins on his nose and cheeks.
After two treatments his visual facial thread veins are practically gone.
I am very content with my Ellipse system!!
Thank you Scanex (Ellipse's distributor in Sweden) for all your good support and for an unbelievably good machine.

Faster treatments - fewer passes of light

Testimonial:

The fact that all the light energy is contained in a waveband that closely matches the the absorption spectrum of PpIX enables me to treat effectively, while using only a fraction of the energy required with other IPL systems. Patients benefit from a faster treatment, via fewer passes of light.

Ellipse Selective Waveband Technology (SWT®)

Description:

The raw light from the flash-lamp used in Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) systems includes invisible ultraviolet and infrared light, as well as visible white light. First-generation Intense Pulsed Light systems filter out the ultraviolet light, but allow the infrared light through.

AbsorptionGraph_SWT_400The Ellipse SWT® system has an extra filter to remove the infrared light (which is not absorbed by the target chromophores, melanin and haemoglobin but which is absorbed by the interstitial fluid). This ensures that the light that is directed to the skin contains only the wavelengths that are required to perform the treatment. Treatment with SWT® is thereby more effective, since it uses much less energy and does not require artificial cooling. The risk of side  effects is also reduced.

Ellipse SWT® systems are used to treat a wide range of skin conditions, including the removal of unwanted hair, vascular lesions, epidermal pigmented lesions, photo-damage, acne vulgaris and PDT treatments. SWT® uses a treatment methodology called Selective Photothermolysis, also used with lasers, to target specific chromophores in the epidermis.

The importance of energy and pulse control

The amount of energy is important; to ensure that the target receives the energy required getting the desired result without damaging the surrounding tissue.
The pulse time is important because it controls how quickly the energy is delivered. This is determined by the Thermal Relaxation Time (TRT) of the target. For fine adjustment these can be altered by the user.
As well as the pulse duration, the shape of the pulse is also important. Because the energy is measured over the full length of the pulse, it is important that the pulse shape is as square as possible. That is to say the intensity of the pulse should be consistent throughout its life.
An inconsistent pulse will mean that the skin receives different levels of energy throughout the pulse. It also means that the spectrum of the light will change from the theoretical values during the pulse (similar the effect seen when a dimmer switch is used).
Unlike many other products on the market, Ellipse carefully controls both the amount of energy and the pulse so that the best possible result is obtained.

Ellipse Dual Mode Filtering and Square Pulse Technology

Ellipse's patented Dual Mode Filtering and Square Pulse Technology are the key innovations enabeling practically painfree hair removal - which differentiate Ellipse from many ordinary IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) systems.

Ellipse Nd:YAG Laser Technology

Description:

The Ellipse Nd:YAG 1064 laser, with a wavelength of 1064 nm, is optically pumped using a flash lamp. This permits the Ellipse Nd:YAG 1064 to draw on our established knowledge of controlling the pulse shape. For treatment of vascular lesions long pulses (eg. 35 ms) and for warts a 20 ms pulse are used whereas treatment of onychomycosis is based on the use of short 0.3 ms pulses

Nd:YAG laser is the best solution for treatment of certain vascular lesions - such as leg veins

Leg veins and reticular vessels are normally deep, which is why Nd:YAG in most cases respond better than IPL and SWT for treatment of certain vascular lesions such as leg veins. IPL is good for treatment of very superficial small vessels or blanching after sclerotherapy. Note that lasers or light can only be used 1 month post sclerotherapy.

How does an Nd:YAG laser work on vascular lesions?

To clear leg veins and other vascular lesions, the vessels must be constricted. The Nd:YAG 1064 laser sends energy into the blood and vessel walls, where it is absorbed by blood. Red blood cells are heated, causing met-haemoglobin formation and greater absorption. This causes microclotting and heating of the vessel wall, leading to complete or partial collapse. The constricted vessel then degenerates, and the visible leg veins disappear from the surface of the skin.

Treating vascular conditions in general is based on the principle of selective photothermolysis performed with a single long pulse.

A condition of good results is that the pulse time is chosen noting the thermal relaxation time for the actual vessel thickness.

The ideal immediate response to treatment with vascular laser is coagulation of the vessel with no other apparent effect. This effect can be observed in the form of bluish or greyish discolouration visible on the skin surface. In leg veins, blanching or disappearance of the vessel may occur.

How does an Nd:YAG laser work on warts?

The laser beam burns and destroy the wart tissue.

How does an Nd:YAG laser work on onychomycosis (nail fungus)?

The exact mechanism of onychomycosis (nail fungus) treatment is not totally known. Heating the fungus is one major factor, but introducing a sub-millisecond pulse adds a “photo-acoustic” effect to the treatment, weakening the cell structure of the fungus.

A series of flashes of infrared light is aimed across the whole nail, including the nail folds (the skin immediately surrounding the sides and base of the nail). This heats up and destroys the fungus that is present. To ensure complete coverage, the whole series of pulses is repeated four times, and the individual flashes overlap each other.

The Ellipse Nd:YAG 1064 laser

Because the Ellipse Nd:YAG 1064 laser employs a patented focused air cooling system for pre, parallel and post cooling patients experience less discomfort with the Ellipse Nd:YAG than with many alternative cooling systems. While some systems rely on expensive cryogen spray or additional operators for external coolers the Nd:YAG 1064 produces its own stream of cooled air fully integrated in the hand-piece at no additional costs. The Nd:YAG hand-piece offers superb ergonomics with smooth adjustability of working light, aiming beam and spot size. Furthermore, the Ellipse's Nd:YAG 1064 laser comes with 3 interchangeable tips: A standard circular tip for treatment of most vessels. A semi-circular tip for use close to the nose or eye. And a Sapphire window tip to treat underlying feeder vessels.

Fractional non-ablative laser technology

Description:

The Ellipse Frax 1550 laser, with a wavelength of 1550 nm, is a diode based non-ablative fractional laser. The Frax 1550 allows the user to set pulse time and energy independently and thereby fully control the thermal impact on the skin. Frax 1550 is developed for the treatment of non-ablative skin resurfacing, striae, acne scars and surgical scars. The integrated SoftCoolTM cooling system ensures a more comfortable treatment experience for the patient.

Non-ablative skin resurfacing

Non-ablative skin resurfacing uses a laser to improve skin quality by heating the lower layer of skin without injuring the skin surface. The heat generated by the laser stimulates collagen production which causes the skin to tighten and look younger and healthier. Non-ablative fractional lasers, deliver heat into the skin through thousands of tiny, deep columns known as microthermal zones (MTZ). The fractional treatment allows the skin to heal faster than if the entire area was treated. This reduces the patients down time and the risk of side effects. In most cases, multiple sessions are needed.

The Ellipse Frax 1550

Frax 1550 is an easy to operate fractional laser including the well-known and trusted Ellipse clinical intelligence. The magnetic motion roller ensures a uniform result and keeps track of the area treated and the total coverage achieved. The built-in working light makes it easy to see the area of treatment. The Frax 1550 does not require the use of any consumables. Moreover, the roller can easily be detached for disinfection between patients.
